Estimation of temperature in the cutting area during orthogonal turning of grade 2 titanium

Abstract The authors introduce an experimental-analytical method for determining the average temperature values in PSZ (primary shear zone) and SSZ (secondary during orthogonal turning of grade 2 titanium with a use uncoated carbide tool positive rake angle flat face. presented is based on algorithm which stress are calculated by means Johnson–Cook constitutive equation Oxley’s model cutting mechanics. Average determined iteratively finding minimum difference between values. As its inputs, uses feed tangential force components, value chip flow velocity face, constants equation. was validated empirical data collected experiments. test rig consisted KNUTH Masterturn 400 precision lathe equipped dynamometer, high-speed camera, thermal imaging camera.
